FutureWater recently conducted a training session for the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Tunisia on Water Governance and the Water-Energy-Food-Environment (WEFe) Nexus. This training, held in Tunis, was part of the Dutch-funded Shiraka training program and was delivered in collaboration with The Hague Academy of Local Governance. The session aimed to equip stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to implement integrated resource management strategies in the face of growing water and climate challenges.
A key component of the training was the Rapid Evaluation for WEFe nexus analysis (REWEFe) tool, developed to support decision-making by assessing trade-offs and synergies across water, energy, food, and environmental sectors. The training provided an in-depth demonstration of the REWEFe tool, showcasing its practical application through case studies relevant to Tunisia’s context. Participants explored how the tool can help policymakers and water managers prioritize sustainable interventions and improve resource allocation.
The interactive sessions fostered discussions on governance frameworks, institutional coordination, and capacity-building needs for mainstreaming the WEFe Nexus approach in Tunisia. By bridging science, policy, and practice, the training aimed to enhance the Ministry’s ability to develop resilient and adaptive water management strategies.
This initiative is part of FutureWater’s ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable water governance in MENA and beyond, strengthening local expertise in integrated resource management and climate adaptation.
