Desafío
El cambio climático, el aumento de las demandas de agua y alimentos, la mayor frecuencia e intensidad de las sequías e inundaciones, son solo algunos ejemplos que muestran que la presión sobre nuestro planeta y nuestros recursos naturales está aumentando. Las expectativas para el futuro muestran que es probable que la presión aumente aún más. Esto indica que cada vez resulta más necesario el poder recopilar y sintetizar el conocimiento científico generado para hacer un uso sostenible de nuestros recursos naturales, y compartirlo con tantas personas y organizaciones como sea posible para mejorar su capacitación para tomar acciones y divulgar sobre las mejores prácticas adaptativas.
Sin embargo, transferir conocimiento es un desafío por si mismo. Las personas y las organizaciones a menudo difieren en términos de conocimiento, pero cosas como recopilar, compartir y usar datos, modelos y técnicas (de código abierto) también pueden diferir enormemente por país y por organización. Por lo tanto, la instituciones y organizaciones que capaciten necesitan una de fuerte comprensión y experiencia, un buena metodología y enfoque de enseñanza que permita definir y acotar problemas específicos, y un buen conocimiento de las fortalezas y debilidades de los participantes. En la gran mayoría de los casos, los proyectos que requieren la capacitación de personal necesitan de condiciones previas muy específicas.
Enfoque FutureWater
La capacitación técnica es algo en lo que FutureWater ha adquirido una amplia experiencia. FutureWater tiene una combinación única de conocimiento científico combinado con trabajo de consultoría en (agro-) hidrología, cambio climático, teledetección satelital y técnicas de sensores aéreos no tripulados. Debido a esta combinación, FutureWater es capaz de transmitir de manera fácil y comprensible, y para diversas audiencias, conceptos, metodológicas y técnicas científicas de naturaleza compleja. En los últimos años, FutureWater ha impartido cursos de formación en varios países del mundo para capacitar a organizaciones locales en el uso de, por ejemplo, modelos hidrológicos (SPHY) y de asignación de agua (WEAP), el uso de lenguajes de programación para gestión masiva de datos (e.g. Google Earth Engine) y uso de sensores aéreos no tripulados. La audiencia en estos cursos de capacitación es a menudo muy variada, desde responsables políticos hasta expertos técnicos.
Los cursos de formación y capacitación de FutureWater son “personalizados” ajustándose a las preguntas y necesidades de la organización interesada, así como a los conocimientos previos de los participantes. En general, los cursos se apoyan en un manual donde se integran guías individuales de ejercicios prácticos que se acompañan con conceptos teóricos. Los cursos de capacitación proporcionados por FutureWater pueden ser presenciales, realizándose dónde el cliente lo sugiera, u online que es una modalidad en la que FutureWater ha trabajado intensamente en los últimos años. Además de la calidad de la formación, para FutureWater es muy importante que los participantes puedan aplicar los conocimientos adquiridos tras el periodo de formación. Para facilitar y consolidar este objetivo, el uso de software y datos de código abierto y libre suele primarse respecto de las soluciones comerciales. También, al final de cada periodo de formación, FutureWater posibilita que los participantes pueden hacer consultas a los formadores para así garantizar la consolidación de los conceptos y la puesta en práctica de las técnicas aprendidas.
