Concepto
FutureWater brinda asesoramiento para la gestión de recursos hídricos en diferentes escalas de tiempo, desde la gestión operativa diaria de los niveles de agua en ríos, suelos y canales de riego hasta la toma de decisiones estratégicas a mayor escala sobre la asignación de agua a diferentes usuarios y sectores en una cuenca hidrográfica. Con el aumento de la competencia por los recursos hídricos y los períodos secos prolongados previstos bajo el cambio climático en la mayoría de las cuencas hidrográficas del mundo, la toma de decisiones acertadas a escala de cuenca es más urgente que nunca. Para facilitar que las autoridades de las cuencas tomen decisiones bien informadas, es esencial implementar herramientas de modelado que simulen dinámicamente la demanda de agua en una cuenca y permitan evaluar diferentes estrategias de suministro y opciones de infraestructura. La ejecución de tales estudios es parte del negocio principal de FutureWater. Estamos especializados en seleccionar las herramientas apropiadas para cada desafío, usándolas para explorar una gran cantidad de escenarios climáticos y estrategias de intervención, visualizando el resultado para un usuario final de una manera atractiva e informativa, y brindando asesoramiento a la medida. Una variable clave a considerar en muchas de estas aplicaciones es la demanda insatisfecha, es decir, la escasez de agua experimentada por un usuario debido a la falta de suministro en condiciones específicas. FutureWater tiene la experiencia interna para traducir esta demanda insatisfecha en términos relevantes para sectores específicos, por ejemplo, lapérdida de rendimiento del cultivo (agricultura) o reducciones en la producción de energía (energía hidroeléctrica). Para estudios detallados que examinen el suministro y la demanda de agua, combinamos herramientas de modelado con base física, como SPHY o SWAT, con modelos más conceptuales, como la herramienta de Evaluación y Planificación del Agua (WEAP), en un enfoque integrado que hace un uso óptimo de las fortalezas de las herramientas individuales.
Aplicaciones FutureWater
FutureWater construyó un modelo detallado de WEAP para la cuenca del río Segura en el sureste de España, una de las cuencas europeas más secas. El mapa muestra la esquematización del modelo y las interrelaciones entre diferentes usuarios de agua e infraestructura, con entradas, almacenamientos y salidas que se extraen a través del modelo. El modelo se implementa para apoyar a las autoridades gubernamentales en las decisiones de gestión.
Bajo la asignación del Banco Asiático de Desarrollo (ADB), FutureWater construyó un extenso modelo WEAP para proporcionar asesoramiento sobre las inversiones en infraestructura de riego previstas por ADB y el Ministerio de Recursos Hídricos y Meteorología (MOWRAM). El gráfico muestra en qué medida la demanda de agua agrícola está cubierta por el suministro en diferentes cuencas hidrográficas en varios escenarios: expansión del área regada en la provincia de Oddar Manchey (01), dos opciones de transferencia entre cuencas que se consideran actualmente (02 y 03), mayor expansión del reservorio (04), modernización del riego (05) e intensificación de los patrones de cultivo (06).
