The Mekong State of Basin Report is updated every 5 years serving as an important reference for the cyclic updating of the Mekong River Commission (MRC). This consultancy is supporting the development of the 2018 report focusing on the hydrology, environment and climate change chapters. The Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS) is the operational arm of the MRC. It provides technical and administrative services to the Joint Committee and the Council to achieve the MRC’s mission and is responsible for the development of the State of the Basin Reports. The objective of this specific consultancy is to support Technical Support Division (TD) in preparing the MRC State of Basin Report 2018. Main objectives are reviewing and refining the MRC Indicator Framework and the preparation of the State of the Basin Report 2018 based on those indicators.
Focus is on the following sections:
- Flow condition at Phnom Penh, Tan Chau and Chau Doc
- Salinity intrusion in Delta
- River bank erosion, river channel condition and sediment transport, sand mining
- Flood and drought data
- Climate change covering greenhouse gas, extreme events, temperature, rainfall
- Navigation
